Beavers

General

Beaver Scouts are boys and girls aged between 6 and 8 years old, and make up the first and youngest section of the Scout Group. The most important reason for becoming a Beaver Scout is to have fun and make new friends. Even after Wolf Cubs were started in 1916, there was still a demand by the youngest family members to be able to be part of the Scout Movement. From as early as 1963, Beaver Colonies started to appear, although it was 1982 when The Scout Association officially recognised the need to incorporate Beaver Colonies into their respective Scout Groups. Therefore, in 1986, official badges, uniform and promise were given to Beaver Colonies by The Scout Association.

As we said, the most important reason for becoming a Beaver Scout is to have fun. Some of the things we get up to are:- Playing games, Making new friends, Earning badges, Going on outings & visits, Going outside to learn about the outdoors, Creating things, Listening to stories, Singing songs, Becoming a Cub Scout

The Beaver Programme

The Beaver Scout programme and activities are based on four activity areas, these are:

Beaver Scouts learn about themselves – Exploring their feelings and developing good habits of health and personal safety

Beaver Scouts get to know people – Finding out about people in their family, the family of Scouting, and the local community and wider world

Beaver Scouts explore – Discovering the exciting world of science, nature and technology, exploring the natural and man-made world

Beaver Scouts care – Growing in their love of God and responding to the needs of others, the local community and the wider world
